The Waiting Game
WOW. We are so grateful for all of the calls, texts, messages, food, gifts, hugs - I especially like hugs :) - as well as the comments, shares, and likes on our previous post, but we are mostly thankful for all the prayers! I know it doesn't seem like much, but when you pass us in Wal-mart and simply say "Hey, we're praying!" it means the world!
I'm most often asked how Matt is feeling, and the answer is MUCH better. It has been many, many months since he's felt normal after eating, and he had a NG tube down his throat for days after surgery (the tube sucked everything out of his stomach so nothing would pass through his intestine as it was trying to heal). Since they removed the tumor that was obstructing his intestine, and he is almost healed from surgery, the boy is eating us out of house and home! He is finally regaining his strength, has some color in his face, and his personality is back! I didn’t realize how much it had changed in these past 8 months, but the boy was hangry! For a long time! I get hangry after about 30 minutes, so this was a whole different ballgame - extreme hanger.
One evening at the hospital, in an attempt to distract ourselves and try to pass time, we made up a list of things he wanted to eat when he was feeling better. Here are a few of his top requests...
1. Chicken Alfredo from the Italian Grille
2. BBQ Pork Nachos
3. Outback (Bloomin' Onion, steak, mac and cheese)
4. Olive Garden (Stuffed Chicken Marsala, salad, calamari)
5. Husson's pizza
6. Kathy's spaghetti and meatballs
7. Papa Johns thin crust bbq chicken pizza
8. Cold Spot hot bbq boneless wings
As you can imagine, this has not been the healthiest 2 weeks of our lives as he has already knocked out about 2/3 of the list! However, after meeting with the oncologist at Thomas Hospital and learning about the food sensitivities and diet restrictions that come with chemotherapy, we said go for it!
Matt, Jon, and I will fly to NYC on Monday - I know, we are so boujee traveling with our own personal physician lol ;). I think I speak for the whole family when I say we are looking forward to some concrete answers and a plan so we will know what to expect moving forward. This is Matt's first trip to the "Big Apple," so we are going to take in some sights and do some cool stuff! He's been so miserable for so long that I think it's high time he has a little fun! If you have suggestions of things to do or places to eat, let us know!
Oh, and I think it is important to note that Ozzie is most excited about having his dad home! :)
Is there any place where we can donate? -Love $ Light
