Through Good Times and Bad

When Matt and I got married a mere 16 months ago we promised to love each other through the good times and the bad. Well, we're officially into the bad, but hopefully not for long!

As many of you know from my Facebook post last week, Matt has been feeling sick for quite a few months. He had surgery to remove his gallbladder in May, but the symptoms never really subsided. We dismissed it as his body adjusting to his lack of gallbladder, but his health continued to decline. We reached the breaking point last week when he couldn’t even hold down a Gatorade. He had lost more than 50 pounds since April, and we knew he couldn’t keep living that way. He was admitted to the hospital the next morning for some scans and tests, and a CT revealed there was a blockage in his small intestine.

That blockage was a mass.
That mass was a tumor.
And that tumor was cancer.
Adenocarcinoma to be exact.
The mass was removed, but he will still need to undergo cancer treatments to make sure all of the cancer cells die a miserable death. *shakes fist*

Although the type of cancer is not uncommon, it’s in an uncommon location, and it’s uncommon for someone of his age. After he recovers from his surgery he will get some more tests and more scans, then we will be traveling to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City to get his treatment plan. Thankfully we are able to come back home, and he will have his treatments here in the upcoming months.

We are blessed with so many concerned family members and friends, so we will be posting updates here. To say we are overwhelmed is an understatement, but we are trusting in God to take care of Matt as only He can. As Moses delivered the Israelites from Egypt he said “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:14) so we know He is fighting with us. We have absolutely no reason to think we can’t beat this, and we will.

We ask that you send an unreasonable amount of prayers, love, support, and good vibes our way in the upcoming months, and we hope to bring some good news soon!

Love,
The Lillys
